Awesome recommendations. Those who enjoy the Twighlight series might also enjoy L. A. Banks’ Vampire Huntress series. 12 multi-cultural books of urban vampire drama, romance, and battle in contemporary Los Angeles and various other locations around the world. I really, really loved this series.
Also if you like the imaginative worlds of Harry Potter and Toilkein, you’ll also enjoy the Acacia Trilogy by David Anthony Durham. Acacia is the first book and Acacia: The Other Worlds is the second and current book.
Thanks again for the great suggestions.

The Golden Compass is part of the “His Dark Materials Trilogy” (The Golden Compass; The Subtle Knife; The Amber Spyglass) by Philip Pullman.
It is so much better than Harry Potter. It’s science based, not magic based, so harder to write well because with science you have to follow specific rules and with magic you can make up anything. The heroine (Lyra) is so much a fuller character than Harry and so much more compelling. The trilogy also has the most cogent attack on the Roman Catholic Church ever orchestrated in print. However, did not like the Lyra’s Oxford written after the trilogy. Great movie too of the Golden Compass with all star cast.
I concur David, about The Gold Compass being a wonderful book. I have not read all of the Trilogy and am glad you provided your insight. I’m actually surprised they made such a controversial book into a movie but not surprised at the backlashed they received for doing so. Just the word “DEMON” made people start constructing their picket signs.
Thank you also Trina for your suggestions.

[...] Potter or Twilight Withdrawals? [...]
I absolutely devoured “His Dark Materials” (Golden Compass, etc., etc.) great read! My parents were obsessed about the books too!
Yes I still get sad when I remember that I have no more Harry Potter books to look forward to. And my heart aches when I think of Dobby… *brushes away tear*
I never read Twilight b/c I’m Team Vampires-burn-in-the-sun lol
